Wound and Scar Care - Compounding Solutions

OVERVIEWWound

A rough population prevalence rate for chronic non-healing wounds in the United States is 2% of the general population. Wound healing and care is a dynamic process consisting of four continuous, overlapping, and programmed phases. The events of each phase must happen in a precise and regulated manner to insure proper wound closure. Interruptions, or prolongation in the process can lead to delayed wound healing or a non-healing chronic wound.

This course will describe the phases of the wound healing process and examine the disruptive factors that can produce chronic wounds and painful scarring. The course will also review treatment strategies and commonly used Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients and formulations used in the management of wound and scar care.
